From the traditional, fancy night out, to unique modern spins on the dinner date, romantic evenings are timeless and important to both new and long-lasting relationships. Sometimes it’s tough to generate new ideas, or maybe you’re just looking for advice about how to plan something classy. Look no further. After reading the following romantic dinner ideas, you will be armed with a list of perfectly romantic dinner plans for your first elegant date, or for an evening with your established partner.
#1 Dinner and a Movie
Though going to dinner and catching a movie afterwards is typical, it’s always a must. Pick out a semi-casual restaurant and have a nice conversation before heading over to the movie theater, where memories of teenage romance await. This classic date is perfect for both talking and physical contact. You can enjoy each others company while eating, before getting comfortable in the dark theater where you can hold hands or enjoy your date’s embrace.
Picking a semi-casual restaurant is important so as not to overwhelm before a low-key night at the theater. Also make sure to choose a location that wont be too noisy or chaotic, so you are able to hear each other. Depending on your tastes, any movie can be appropriate. However, good old scary movies, or even romantic comedies, if your date is game, are good opportunities to cuddle up.
#2 Evening Picnic
This is one of my personal favorites. Pack up a blanket, choose a gorgeous spot, and watch the sunset together while you enjoy the weather and some typical outdoor delicacies. You may choose to prepare the meal yourself, or decide to each bring something. Various cheeses that you may not often splurge on, such as Gouda or Brie, paired with nice crackers, a baguette, and sparkling grape juice (unless you can find a location that allows drinking) are nice. Some other good choices are tasty seasonal fruit, sandwiches, or a pasta dish. As an added treat, surprise your date with one of his favorite snacks or desserts.
After the sunset is over, an outdoor picnic doubles as an opportunity to stargaze. Lay back in the grass with your guy, look for constellations, and go for a perfect kiss under the moonlight. The cool temperatures are perfect for cuddling, and the quiet evening will allow an environment for either dreamy conversation, or some more romantic kisses.
#3 Drive in Movie
Going to the drive in has become less common over the years, but it continues to be great fun. Not only is it often cheaper than going to a theater, but also you can bring your own dinner, and its more private. Pick up some favorite takeout and candy before heading over. Add to the coziness of your vehicle by packing blankets and pillows, and voila! You will have a private night out with your date in close quarters, allowing for ample possibilities, and some more teenage fun.
#4 Make Dinner Together
This can be fun whether you have cooking experience or not. If one or both of you has practiced, it can be fun to learn from each other. Have a playful cook off, or work together to prepare the perfect dessert. If not, it can be entertaining to figure out your way around the kitchen together! Cooking also means a night alone with your date, and opportunities to dim the lights, light some candles, and turn on mood music. Create your own romance and have a couple choices of wine on hand.
Afterwards, have a home movie night in the living room with the leftover wine and lights totally off. Maybe you will end up watching the movie…maybe not!
#5 Book a Dinner Cruise
If you live in an area near water, don’t hesitate on this one. Boats are extremely romantic. Paired with dinner? It’s perfect. Enjoy the ambience and salty breeze of a night on the waves, while enjoying fancy dinner and some champagne. You might even have the chance to slow dance on deck. Your date will remember such a night for years to come.
#6 Wine Tasting
Noticing a pattern here? Wine is always romantic. Even if you know nothing about it, going to a tasting can be quite fun. Don’t be intimidated! Not only will you learn something new, but you can show off your favorite black dress and flirt with your partner over the classiest of drinks.
If you don’t live near a vineyard or specialty wine shop, create your own wine tasting at home! Pick up a couple of different bottles, do some research on what cheeses or small desserts go with them, and set up in your backyard or on a balcony if possible. Who knows where the night will go?
#7 Fancy Dinner
Planning a fancy dinner can take on many variations. Don’t be afraid to repeat this one more than once! Trying out different restaurants as a special treat can be a great adventure. So, slip on your favorite dress, some nice earrings and classy heels, and splurge.
Make sure to look up restaurants with good ratings in your area, and to check the price range before going so you are prepared. Additionally, some establishments may have a dress code, which can make things even more fun. Perhaps you may also decide to attend a play or opera afterwards. Many theaters give discounts to students or working families, so be sure to check out your options, and have fun living the high life for an evening.
